Recap

Mount Olympus is a well traveled trail. With the exception of a couple points where the trail splits into multiple paths, it is a very clear path to follow to the top. This is a trip that any able-bodied Utahn needs to complete. The view of the valley from this mountaintop is something you just can't experience anywhere else. We hiked the peak in the evening of a weekday to see the sun set over the Great Salt Lake. The sun's reflection across the water and the city was quite breathtaking. The sky quickly turned rosy red and we began our descent from the peak. Equipped with headlamps we made it back safely in the dark; but, we were 20 minutes past the posted closing time of the trail.

This is a trail we would definitely hike again, that is after our legs have rested up. Be aware that while the hike up is steep and hard on the legs, the trip down is equally as steep and hard on the knees. You will want to allow yourself ample time to complete the whole trail without rush, to avoid injury. We would recommend you allow yourself 6 hours to complete this trail, with at least a 2 liter reserve of water. If you hike in the evening, the sun will be beating on you with all its might, so take more water, because it gets hot.
